GENEVA, Ill. — A suburban Chicago man who once worked as a youth minister has pleaded guilty to having sexual contact with a minor.

The Kane County state’s attorney’s office says 36-year-old Chad A. Coe of Elgin pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse in exchange for seven years imprisonment.

Coe was arrested in July 2013. He also was charged with possession of child pornography, but those charges were later dropped.

Coe, who had been free on bond since his arrest, was accused of grooming the victim when she was 14. He allegedly sexually assaulted her at 15 in a church basement.

The victim and her family is suing Coe, the church and the United Church of Christ. No date has been set for a trial of that lawsuit.

Defense attorney Brittany Pedersen declined comment.
